There is a great variety sports that involves water. Water Sports may be enjoyed in the water, under water or on the water:

In the water:

Swimming:
It includes pool swimming and open water swimming. There is a competition amid the participants to become the fastest under self impetus over a particular distance.

Triathlon
The sport is a combination of swimming, cycling and running in immediate succession over various distances.

Modern pentathlon
It includes epee fencing, pistol shooting, swimming, a show jumping course on horseback, and 3km. cross country running

Rescue swimming
It is actually skilled swimming with the aim to rescue other swimmers. The skills include rescue swimming strokes, communication skills and discharge and dodge techniques for self defense as well.

Water polo
It is a team sport played in water. The sort is quite similar to the land-based team handball. The team consists of six field players and a goalkeeper. Swimmers who are also the team players pass the ball while being defended by the opposite team and make scores by throwing the ball into the net defended by a goalie.

Synchronized swimming
In this hybrid form of swimming, gymnastics, and dance, a synchronized routine of complicated moves along escorted by music is performed by the swimmers.

Water aerobics
It is about performing aerobics in shallow water or swimming pools generally.

Snorkeling
Is the practice of swimming at the surface (typically of the sea) being equipped with a mask and a short tube called a snorkel. It helps snorkeler to observe underwater activities with little effort.



Under Water
Scuba diving
It is swimming under water primarily done for recreation, industrial or commercial purposes. In this a diver uses a scuba set to breathe underwater.

Free-diving
It is the aim to maximize the depth dived using no breathing apparatus.

Underwater hockey
It is the hockey played under water with short wooden curved sticks and a heavy puck. Players wear diving masks, snorkels, and fins, and must surface to breathe while team mates continue the game on the pool bottom.

Underwater rugby
It is the rugby played under water. Two teams try to score goals by sending a slightly negatively buoyant ball into the opponents' goal, which is situated on the bottom of the pool.

Underwater photography
It is the photography done under water. Numerous contests worldwide are arranged every year. The digital cameras have revolutionized to encourage the divers to participate.

On the Water
Skurfing,  Barefoot water skiing,  Boating,  Body boarding,  Canoeing, Fishing, Flow boarding, Jet Ski, Kayaking, Kite surfing  Parasailing  Rafting, Rowing, Sailing, Windsurfing, Yachting  are the few of the ‘on the water’ sports loved by the water lovers.
