Landmarks >> Greatest Palaces in the World
According to a quotation by Mel Brooks, it is an extreme pleasure to be a Nawab, King, Prince, Duke or Graf and for the same position to take pride in, real estate is a major reason. Besides the civilization, continent or era, there is one common rule for all, and that is, “the higher up the food chain one gets, the bigger their digs.” Therefore, the kings lived in the greatest homes or the palaces.

In a world where only a few monarchies are left, and nearly a few of them hold more than titular power, palaces owned by them are the reflection of the scattered bits of their royalty. They are rare, and the credit for their scarcity can be given to the ancient wars, calamities and other such things that with time, took away the palaces from earth. Some ancient palaces have become monuments, museums and grand hotels however; they have been restored for their grandeur and beauty.

Chateau de Versailles

Famous for the tranquil gardens and fountains, an opulent Hall of Mirrors, and primarily for the man who crafted it, this palace, got over with its construction in 1789. The French Kings owned it as their principal residence. In the present era, it is one of the most sought after tourism destination in Paris. It is very difficult to visit the monument during the time of peak summers since due to high temperature, standing and waiting in the long queues for hours. One can find a shelter from the sun in the royal gardens as soon as the crowd arrives and so, Chateau de Versailles seems an adventurous destination to hang out around the year.

Prague Castle

A procrastination of ancient luxury at its best, this medieval castle is the greatest castle that ever existed in Europe. With the continuing invasion and regimes introduction of their own rich and lavish palaces, cathedrals and churches in the reflection of main walls of fortress took place. The political and democratic worth of this castle is sustained so far while being the official residence of the President of Czech Republic.

Alcazar

Situated at the top of the rock, overlooking the rivers, Eresma and Clamores, the Alcazar dates back to the 12th century and got hit by Romans upon a similar thought to Alfonso VIII and as a base for military, the highest outpost was used. It was later dominated by the Greta Western Tower and used as a state prison before housing Royal School of Artillery and recently, a state museum.

Krak des Chevaliers

One of the great Syrian forts, Krak des Chevaliers is in an amazing process of restoration and is famous to be one of the complete pieces of military architecture from an ancient period in history. It also comprise of some prestigious Crusader frescoes in the world.  In the year 1030, the first fort was constructed on this site. At the arrival of crusaders in Syria in 1099, there were passes all around before being settled and built on by the Knights Hospitaller. It has a seating capacity of nearly 2000 men and with its strong and strengthened wall; it became an instance for many Castles in Britain, built later.
Thus this is a compilation of some of the great palaces from the history of the world.
