The Roman Empire had evolved as the greatest empire in the history, winning over major parts of the Mediterranean and Western Europe region and leaving an impact on today’s world. Making use of the unique style and influences of the Greek architecture, the Romans have created some of the most attractive and spectacular buildings in the world. Here are a few of them with their incredible designs and stunning outlook.

The Colosseum:

Initially known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, This great building popular with the name of the Roman Coliseum was initiated in 70-72 AD during the time when Vespasian ruled and was completed in 80 AD when Titus was the ruler. Structured for as many as 50,000 audiences, egg-shaped arena is one of the supreme arts of Roman architecture and engineering, wherein almost for fifty decades, public spectacles and gladiatorial contests had taken place. It is believed and estimated that as many as 500,000 people and over a million animals died in this iconic symbol, The Colosseum, in Rome.

The Pantheon:

The structure of the Pantheon is the oldest domed construction in Rome. However it is the unsurpassed building, preserved from the Roman Empire and probably the best all across the world. Pantheon means, “Temple of all Gods” in Greek and that suits the purpose that it has been used for when it became Catholic Church till the 7th century. The monument is not only popular for its façade, or for being an enormous structure, but also for the huge round eye in the center of the roof, also called as Oculus. Utilized mainly as a ventilating and cooling process, there’s a belief that whenever it rains outside, the inside of the building remained dry and clean. The credit goes to the superb drainage system built in the floors of the structure.

Trevi Fountain:

Better described as one of the busiest destinations in Rome, The Trevi Fountain is a beautiful Baroque architecture set in the center, the statue of Oceanus- The God of all Waters- and the Tritons propelling his shell Chariot is captivating enough to drive whole attention in the little piazza. It is one of the most romantic destinations and its spectacular beauty doubles during the early morning or late night hours, when it is all lighted up with vibrant lights. If you want to make the most out of your visit, make it a point to throw a coin over the shoulder because it is believed to get you a visit back to Rome.

Spanish Steps:
