Each year, each season there is something or the other going on as far as sports are concerned. Europe is a specialist in conducting such sports events. Moreover, each sport is associated with its related tournament. There are several upcoming sporting events which are in the pipeline. French Open Tennis (24th May - 7th June): The French Open is the most challenging of all grand slams in tennis. Epsom Derby (6th June 2009): Epsom Derby is being considered as the most high-status horse races in the world. This race is currently sponsored by Investec Specialist Bank. There are Derby contenders which prepare themselves by participating in one or more of the recognized Derby Trials. Derby winners often go for big international races such as Breeder’s Cup in the United States. This year in 2009, Epsom Derby is on 6th June and sport lovers who show keen interest in this sport are eagerly waiting for this grand show to come. Moreover, this two day festival will take place in the Epsom Downs Racecourse in England. The runners participating in this race runs over a distance of 1 mile, 4 furlongs and 10 yards which is about 2,423 meters.
US Open Golf (18th June – 21st June 2009): Golf as we all know is a rich man’s sport. This year, a major Golf championship is being held. The United States Open Championship referred as the U.S. Open is starting on 18th June 2009 and will last till 21st June 2009. As far as the qualifying process and prizes are concerned, US Open can be played by any professional those who have an up-to-date USGA Handicap index. If we talk about qualifying stages there are two. Firstly one has to qualify locally that is local qualifying which is to be played over 18 holes at about 100 golf courses. Then comes the sectional stage. To qualify this stage golf is to be played over 36 holes in a single day at several golf courses.
African Cup of Nations (10th Jan – 31st Jan 2010): This cup is also referred as ANC which is The African Nations Cup. This is the most important international association football competition which is held in Africa. It was started in the year 1957 and is in the list of upcoming events in 2010. When it started only three nations participated but, today it has become a recognized cup worldwide.
